Alaska Beagle Ranch is a 100% volunteer run 501 (c) 3 hound rescue and sanctuary in Wasilla, Alaska that was founded in 2022. ABR rescues Beagles, Bassets, and Hounds throughout the state of Alaska and provides them with a safe place to land, all of their veterinary care, and—when possible—a loving FURever home. Senior hounds and others with significant medical needs may remain at the Ranch as permanent residents, surrounded by the care and companionship they deserve for the remainder of their lives.
ABR holds an Alaska Business License. We're a registered charity with the Alaska Dept. of Law. Additionally, we are a licensed kennel under the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Animal Control and a 501 (c) 3 Nonprofit.
In 2009, Dave discovered a photo of Macy on a bulletin board seeking a new home, making her the first Beagle. When he moved to Wasilla, Macy assisted him in locating the perfect spot and marked it by leaving a mess in the yard. A few months later, Cooper came along, searching for a home, and soon there were more. It became clear that there was a demand for Beagle rescue services in Alaska. After accommodating up to seven dogs, it was necessary to operate legally. By obtaining a State of Alaska Business License, a Mat-Su Borough Kennel License, and 501 (c) 3 status in 2022, ABR became official. Shortly thereafter, Dave retired to manage the ranch full-time and ABR became a Hound Rescue. Since then, dozens of pups have found sanctuary, and several dozen more have been adopted into their FURever homes. ABR is now recognized globally as a safe haven for all Hounds.

Senior Hounds
At the ranch, we provide a loving and nurturing environment for senior Beagles, Bassets, and other Hounds aged 10 years and older, who become residents of the Alaska Beagle Ranch (ABR). These gentle companions are cared for throughout their golden years, ensuring they receive all the medical attention necessary from our dedicated veterinarians. We prioritize their comfort by providing nutritious meals, cozy spaces to rest, and opportunities for gentle exercise. Our mission is to enrich their lives and offer them a safe haven where they can thrive and enjoy their remaining years in peace and happiness. Each senior Hound is cherished and treated with the respect and love they deserve, allowing them to feel secure and valued as part of our family.

At ABR, we understand that Hounds with long-term medical needs require special attention and care. Depending on individual circumstances, these lovable Hounds can become residents of our facility, where they will receive a nurturing environment tailored to their unique requirements. Our dedicated team, in collaboration with our veterinarians, ensures that all medical needs are thoroughly addressed and managed. This commitment allows us to provide comprehensive care, helping these beagles lead fulfilling lives despite their health challenges. By fostering a compassionate and supportive atmosphere, we aim to make a positive difference in the lives of our canine residents, allowing them to thrive within our loving community.
Dogs selected for adoption receive a veterinary wellness exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, and are spayed or neutered before adoption. We warmly invite potential adopters to submit their applications for review.
